Mobious believes that its proprietary technology will enhance, expand and create entirely new enabling applications and markets. As all diseases on the planet today have a genetic component, the ability to treat and eventually cure disease is dependent on access to genetic information.
It is however incredibly difficult for scientists and clinicians, both public and private, to acquire genetic knowledge relating to the underlying origins of disease and disease progression. Yet this holds the key to understanding not only how diseases arise, but also how best to prevent, treat and eventually cure them at their most fundamental level.
It is estimated that two thirds of human disease cannot be treated effectively. Even with the vast resources of the global pharmaceutical industry, eight out of ten drugs fail clinical trails due to unforeseen toxic side effects. Those drugs that do reach the market can still produce toxic side effects in an unlucky subset of patients. Considerable efforts are being made to address this situation.
Access to genetic knowledge is currently severely restricted by outmoded technologies. These prevent the global healthcare industry from reaching its full potential i.e. personalised healthcare for all.
The ‘Human Genome’ has been ‘mapped’, but it took The Human Genome Project over ten years and $3 billion to complete a draft of the genetic code. That highlights the limitations of current technology and the need for faster, more cost-effective processes.
